What is different about Toruso's patented design?
Exceptional comfort
The Toruso ® tampon's insertion & extraction cause no discomfort as there is no movement between the exterior surface of the tampon & the vaginal wall. All movement takes place internally, within the tampon. As it requires no lubrication, the tampon can be used with no discomfort before menstruation has started, during menstruation and after menstruation has finished. Instead of being pushed into the vagina, it smoothly separates the front & rear vaginal walls as it moves in between. A standard tampon can cause abrasions as it passes across the horizontal ridges of the vagina (rugae) especially if the user inserts the tampon at an angle different to that of the vagina. As the Toruso tampon is fluid filled and can change its direction, it can follow the natural vaginal curve. The tampon can increase in volume without any reduction in comfort. The Toruso tampon can insert itself to the correct position without further action by the user.
Hygienic handling
During insertion any surface contamination is sealed within the core of the tampon and enclosed. During extraction the menstrual fluid is encapsulated within the tampon. The outside of the tampon can be handled directly and therefore removed easily & hygienically. Its external surface is exposed externally only at the time of extraction, having previously been contained within the tampon. The tampon is less likely to transfer blood to the vaginal opening as it is dry externally.
Convenience
During each of 4 menstrual phases, current tampons require a change of device:
Pre-period - menstrual pad
First 2 days - medium/high absorbent tampon
Remaining period days - low/medium absorbent tampon
After period - menstrual pad
The Toruso tampon can be used for every phase. The unpredictable timing of each phase means that the Toruso tampon is all that is required.
Liberating
During the first menstrual phase, when a pad is normally worn, it is difficult to:
Go swimming - pads may not be worn in the pool.
Go to the gym - pads may cause chaffing during exercise.
Wear a bikini - pads can be unsightly
The Toruso tampon can be used during this phase when the vagina would be too dry to use a standard tampon. The overall size is small (less than 6cm long). It can be discreetly held in a closed hand.
Safe
Any contamination of the outside of the Toruso tampon prior to insertion is contained separately within the centre of the tampon on insertion.
The Toruso tampon contains no air which can cause the of proliferation of oxygen-preferring bacteria implicated in toxic shock syndrome (staph. aureus). The tampon can be inserted without excessive dilation of the lower vagina which would otherwise introduce air into the middle & upper vagina.
